Simon Gough, PhD
I’m Simon Gough, PhD in Japanese and Media Studies from Monash University, Australia.
My field of study is primarily Japanese media cultures, with a particular emphasis on the consumption and production patterns that surround anime, manga, and other forms of popular culture. I have a particular interest in the development of narrative and genre, and globalised consumer engagement with Japanese media.
My current full-time work is with government. Previously I have been a wandering sessional teacher, with experience educating students at the University of Melbourne, Deakin University, and LaTrobe University. Additionally, I am supervising Masters degree research through Deakin University.
As of December 2018, I am the Book Reviews Editor for the electronic journal of contemporary japanese studies.
I am always seeking opportunities to continue my passion for teaching, research, and developing a greater understanding of how globalised media cultures are shifting in the 21st century.
If you’re interested in my research, or seeking my expertise for collaboration, don’t hesitate to peruse the information available on either my current projects or research portfolio pages — or just get in touch with me directly through my contact form.
